Little Things Can Be Big

As we packed for two of our children’s weddings a myriad of little things faced me. Little thoughts and memories wove their way in and out of my mind as I busied myself. Naturally, they all added up to big things! It struck me how often we overlook, underestimate, minimize the little things, not realizing that often these very things can prove so important and special in future days. Little things…can be big.

Of Fauna, Flora, Fowl, and Friends

Africa seems a bit lonely without our friends the Norbergs and Wyatts. Just knowing we’re on the same continent, even if unable to visit in person, has a sense of comfort and comradery. On October 6th our home church was blessed to have Gary Norberg in the pulpit. I had texted several ladies asking them to give Stephanie “a hug from Debbie Wilhite.” I think she received 15.

Africa’s Ambassadors – Debbie Wilhite

Well, it’s time to refer to the calendar again to see what has transpired in the past 2 months. What would I do without my “outside brain” in written form?!

My Plans Will Wait

The childhood phrase, “Ready or not, here we come” summarizes my thoughts.

Home Again

…Debrianna sighed sympathetically, “Ahh, you only got a 2-minute hug. That’s so sad.” It must have been the “Pollyanna-thinking” that influenced my reply: “If I hadn’t been there to see her, I wouldn’t have had any hug! So I was blessed to get DOUBLE.”

Debbie Wilhite – Africa’s Ambassadors

For this article I reached for a cup of coffee. The real stuff — Nescafé rich and full-flavored. I was going to drink it black for added intensity, but instead pampered myself with the addition of real cream instead! Extremes, I know. Coffee…and a box of tissues.

On the Other Hand (A Study in Perspective)

That’s NOT my new hearing aid squealing. As I write this, wrapped around my neck inside my scarf lay a wee, 12-hour-old puppy, the only offspring born to our dog, Darling, who was laid to rest today. I thought I was over my “nursing” days. Yet here we are, engaged in shift-work, every 2 hours, bottle-feeding this infant orphan. This was NOT on my list of “to-do-today” …On the other hand…We enjoyed our years with Dyanna’s dear Darling. Her companion, Happy (a Scottish Terrier mix), remains to rule the roost outdoors, barking her warning or greeting at beck and call, day or night. Perhaps she will grow accustomed to this pup enough to adopt him. Meanwhile, our family has opportunity to develop new skills and perhaps some extra character, such as patience, compassion, and whatever else the Lord has to grow us. Darling’s passing was also a very good excuse for me to cry about all the other things I would have LIKED to cry about but couldn’t. Is there such a thing as virtual tears?…

Debbie Wilhite – Africa’s Ambassadors

I’ve forgotten how much I enjoy the change of seasons. With the cooler weather even the air smells like autumn! A world of memories surfaces with the scent and crunch of dry leaves fallen from trees preparing for the cold of winter.
