Debbie Wilhite – Africa’s Ambassadors

It’s SO good to be home with my family in Africa. These past months have held some adjustments for all of us as we shift back into a routine that includes my presence. The older girls did a very commendable job caring for the needs of the family, managing the house, and playing mommy-daddy-sisters to the other children. I’m very grateful for all the children and their workable, willing spirits. We also have been able to enjoy the company of George and Jackie Wyatts, James & Diane Kyeyune from Uganda, the Doug Hammetts, and the George Hammetts, as well as a personal quick trip for me to see Donna Kuzel. You can’t buy good friends and sweet fellowship!

We as a family are indebted to the numerous people who sympathized with us and prayed for us during my recent eye trial. We are also very grateful to our church for their love, and especially the Jim Hall family for putting me up–and putting up with me!–in such a sweet hospitable way. I shall take this month’s opportunity to share what occurred, trusting God may be glorified in the account.

Beneath the Surface and Behind the Scenes…God’s Seasons

The Bird of Paradise is showing off her glories in our back yard once again! We recently planted two rose bushes chosen out of hundreds at Ludwig’s Rose Garden while on a “date” to the airport. Of course, they appear more like thorny sticks than budding beauties. But their (hopefully) glorious season lies ahead. And two of several purple irises have awakened from their winter sleep.

God, in His wisdom, often gives us tests, as He did to the children of Israel, to prove us. Some times we “pass.” Other times we “fail.” Last weekend was another “test” for me. Unfortunately, I failed. But the blessing was to follow.

Due to rains and other circumstances it had been awhile since I’d walked the large circle of our driveway. Last week I picked up the pace, so to speak, and donned my sneakers, grabbed a book of Scriptures to meditate on as I made the rounds, and headed for the dirt path.

Well, we’re back in Africa. The days of fellowship and furlough almost seem like a lifetime ago. For me, communication with “the other world” across the ocean has been limited to a few texts and an occasional email at an internet cafe’ …when it chooses to send.

…PLODDING and PRAYING…

Usually I try to keep my articles simple. Give me a topic and let me run with it (keeping me from rambling!). Not this time, though. The past few months seem to have been a jumble of wonderful times with family and friends as well as situations bearing some sorrows. The Lord, as is His nature, has been good in all these times and situations.

SIMPLIFYING…?

I’m still amazed at how the Lord prepares us for the future that only He knows. When I look back on how we thought we’d have to travel with just a van, how we had “downsized” to doing this, and then how God brought along the new van and camper 6 days before we had to leave for full-time travel, I chuckle. (One of the phrases for simplify is “to reduce to bare bones,” and that’s about what we did!)

MOVING ON…

March was a moving month…literally and spiritually. In God’s provision of both a new 10-sleeper-camper and a 15-passenger van with an engine large enough to pull the trailer–at what seemed like “the last minute”–the Lord stretched our faith. We’ve heard it expressed that the Lord is seldom early but never late.

Debbie’s March Update

This is all new to me…I never thought I would be TEXTING an article from the road. What is this world coming to?!
