Who Is a God like unto Thee?

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.Micah 7:18-19

Who is a God like unto thee, who can compare to the God that we serve? There is none like Him; there is none beside Him. He alone is God. Yet, even if we compared anyone or anything else to Him, there can be no comparison.

Why? According to this verse, He is incomparable in His pardon. He takes away, carries off, forgives our iniquity. Though we are perverse and rebellious, deserving of His righteous judgment, He still offers freely to cleanse us from that iniquity. He passeth by transgression, not holding it to our account. He provided the way through Christ for us to receive complete pardon, never held against us again when we have His blood applied to our account.

Our God is incomparable in His mercy. We as humans usually hold on to our anger against those who offend us, whether real or imagined. But not our God. He does not retain, does not hold on to His anger for the reason that He delighteth in mercy. Delighteth! He takes pleasure in showing His compassion and long-suffering to those who have willfully wronged Him. Who would delight in that? Only our incomparable God.

He is incomparable in His seeking compassion. We would never come to Him for the pardon He offers if He didn’t first seek for us. He turns towards us. The Righteous God seeking the unrighteous sinner. He doesn’t seek us to mete out His justice, but rather to show His love and kindness to sinful wretches. What incomparable love!

God is incomparable in His power over our sin. He doesn’t just forgive sin, but He delivers from sin. The word “subdue” brings to mind a wild animal brought into a place of subjection. Where once sin reared its head, conquering us, bringing us into bondage to our own sinful flesh, now our iniquities are brought under the control of our omnipotent God, Who never loses a battle. He casts our sins into the depths of the sea, never bringing them back up, never to be held to our account again.

Once we are delivered by our incomparable God, we are forever delivered! We may allow sin back in, but we are free from the power of sin. We are serving by our own choice, not because we are compelled to. When we realize that, once again, we can claim the pardon and power of Christ to be victorious over the sin.

What a God we serve! How great is His mercy and His pardon! We can rejoice in Him and live victoriously because He has freely forgiven and delivered us from our sin.
