When God Has Another Plan

By Rachel Hammett

It was Corrie ten Boom that said, “God has no problems, only plans.” How wise for us to remember, as His much-loved children, that what we perceive as problems, pains, trials, and temptations, are merely God rearranging events to fit His plan, orchestrating lessons for us in the school of faith.

It is not reasonable to think of God as simply a mere human being. We are surprised at unfaithfulness in our fellow man; we are taken back at the wickedness we see around us. When our best-laid plans are upset, we reel in shock that we must begin our planning again. Events out of our control have the ability to set us on our ear just when we thought we were really starting to go somewhere.

Why shouldn’t the Master Planner have some plans for us of which we have not yet been informed? A wise father does not heap too much stress upon his young child by relaying the events to come of the entire week; he merely tells him the next thing. The child would not have the wisdom or ability to plan ahead for everything needed for the entire week or even the entire day – he wouldn’t even know where to begin. But he does have the ability to just obey the next direction given by the father.

We should be just as little children under the all-knowing hand of our Heavenly Father. We don’t understand what is around the bend, yet unseen, and would not have the wisdom or strength of mind to handle it if we did. How much better for us to be as quiet children, resting in the arms of our Father, obeying the next step as He directs.

“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

“Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7

  1. Loved this article…great encouragement. I loved Corrie ten Boom and especially the quote you gave by her.
I recently took on the care of my mom with beginning stages of Alzhiemers. It is a challenge at times and I find myself frustrated and impatient. Being reminded that this is the plan od God for me is awesome.
Thank you for your insight. I am a Pastor’s wife and many ladies come to me with struggles in their life. This will be a great encouragement to them as well.
