In His Name

You may wonder why a Christian has a heart of love;

And why, when giving time to others, they thank God above?

Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

“I made the recipe one evening after work, and it took about an hour to turn out a batch of 4 dozen brownie bites, which were gone within 24 hours! Since then, I’ve made at least 5 other batches, each time they were big hits”. After sharing a batch with co-workers and guests, at the hotel where Amanda works, she had a guest ask for the recipe! “She couldn’t believe how easy they were when I explained how to make them!”

You’re All Wet

Water. Most of our body and the earth is made up of it. Water is basic to life. In geometry proofs, it’s a given. The Lord uses our daily need of it to pattern our spiritual daily need. Although the spiritual applications are many, our physical intake of water is one of the best habits you can add to your lifestyle.

Help! I’m on board, but they’re not!

You’ve decided to become a better steward of what you have. You’ve got your coupons clipped, shopping list ready, pantry organized, and you are on a quest to save money on your grocery bill! One small problem. The rest of the household is not. For instance, your husband insists upon drinking soda as his only beverage and your kids will only eat one brand of cereal. Don’t they know that water is free and any old cereal will do!? Here are a couple of tips to bridge the gap between you and your frugal unawares.

Beverly Hammett – Streams in the Desert

Much has happened since our last update. We have seen the Lord’s hand at work in the village of Makobo. This is a village about 30 KM outside of Francistown where we have been teaching every Sunday for about 5 months. This group of people had many false beliefs—including animal sacrifices and ancestor worship—so we had to go slow and make sure they understood the truth of God’s Word about salvation. What a blessing it was a few weeks ago to see eight precious people, all adults, bow the knee on a cold concrete floor and call out to the Lord to save them! The next week on Sunday 4 more adults were saved. Please continue to pray for this group of people.

You could almost think it’s Christmas – if you didn’t look at the calendar! Yet, in another month or so, summer will make its grand, rather abrupt appearance and will be here to stay for the next 9 months! 🙂 All of you hot-weather-loving-people can book a flight over to South Africa when Fall comes and you miss the heat! We have plenty to share.

A Word Fitly Spoken

Dear Sisters, we all have the wonderful opportunity to be pictures of silver and our friends can shine like those golden apples. But it all starts with being that friend that is fitly spoken. Can I encourage you to set a goal to pray that God will bring someone into your life that you can make shine like apples of gold? Ladies, God has made us so special and given us many different and amazing talents. Let’s go forward and use them for God’s glory.

Help! My husband is in the ministry! What am I supposed to do?

I have been asked that question several times over the years. Many women do not know what is even expected of them if their husband is in full-time Christian service. The wife is often told that she has the potential to make or break her husband’s ministry, but there is no formal training for her as a pastor’s wife. A pastor will go to school for 3 or 4 years, and some even longer, but many pastor’s wives have not even had the chance to finish college. Very few have any Bible training at all.

The Power of a Promise

“But he promised,” she whispered. “I know he’s going to come.”

There are few things as sweet as a little girl’s trust in her loving father. When she has a daddy who has cared for her and is extra careful to always tell the truth and always keep his promises, in her mind, there is nothing her daddy cannot do. She doesn’t understand that even fathers have limitations. He might make a promise, and circumstances out of his control would prevent him from keeping that promise, no matter how he tried. That is the limitation of being only human.

It Is All A Gift

I want to know this God who loves me so;
Who has done so much for me;
Who, for me, gave of His precious Son.
I want to know this God who is pleased to dwell
with the humble, contrite and seeking soul.

Life is Tremendous

Charlie Tremendous Jones guarantees that the reading of this book will be one of the most profitable things you have ever done. Executives and families have sat through this same 3 hour lecture several times in a twelve month period. So why is this such a valuable book to read? And why have these people taken so much time to hear and hear again the principles written in this book? I would like to share some of these life changing principles with you.

In All The World

When I am weak, my spirit seeks for strength to stand.

I cry for help, but keep on failing in my plan.

Mayonnaise

Meet one of my favorite friends in the kitchen…. The stick blender! I’ve had my stick blender for several years and it is such a help in my kitchen. So easy to clean too! My poor stand blender has been relegated to the cabinet and is rarely pulled out to use anymore. From fruit smoothies, creamed soups, to pesto and an everyday item like mayonnaise.

Heavenly Sunlight

Remember sun worshipers? Not literal worshiping of the sun, but people who were just too tan. It was always a dream of mine, as a pale gal, to have that bronzed look. Next, skin cancer scares really kept all of us out of the sun and indoors. What is the truth about sun exposure? How much is too much? As a doctor, I get this question often and with all this heat, it has been on my mind.

Resourcefulness

When I was 9 years old I had the privilege to visit my Dad’s homeland, the then communist Czechoslovakia. We stayed with my grandparents for three weeks. Their entire property was a garden complete with chickens and ducks, and baby kittens. As I thought about that time recently, I was struck with my grandparents’ and great-grandmother’s (who lived with them) resourcefulness. Nothing, and I mean nothing was wasted!

2

Michelle Castner – The Castner Chronicles

The definition of joy is “a feeling of great pleasure and happiness that does not necessarily rely on our circumstances. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit that the Lord expects us to cultivate. (Gal.5:22-23) True joy stems from our relationship with the Father and the Son. “…and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.” (I John 1:3-4)

Beverly Hammett – Streams in the Desert

Shortly after moving here, my husband and I were looking for a place to go walking each day. There is a private school right down the road from us, so we talked to the headmaster and got permission to walk on their soccer field. School starts at 7 AM so when we go walking, we must start around 6 AM. One morning early we were out walking and suddenly we heard a trumpet playing. A rousing trumpet song is not something you expect to hear anywhere at 6 AM, but especially not in Africa

Kristin Hammett – Village Vista

It has been the time for visitors these past two months – but we love it! We enjoyed visits from Garry & Michelle Castner and family in April and Tom & Krinny Gaudet and their daughter Lisa Johnson in May. It was a blessing to our family to share our home, ministry, friends, and this country where we live. We had the fun privilege of taking each family on a quick trip to Kruger National Park, and a trip to the Blyde River Canyon as well.

Debbie Wilhite – Africa’s Ambassadors

God, in His wisdom, often gives us tests, as He did to the children of Israel, to prove us. Some times we “pass.” Other times we “fail.” Last weekend was another “test” for me. Unfortunately, I failed. But the blessing was to follow.
