Book Review: Guide to the Empty Nest

Barbara and Susan’s Guide to the Empty Nest

by Barbara Rainey & Susan Yates

This book is a must read!

In a blink of an eye you will be at this stage in life. It is a book that can prepare you for the days to come. Why not prepare ahead of time!

The feelings of the empty nest comes long before it actually happens. Your nest doesn’t have to be empty before you begin to prepare for it. As with other stages in a woman’s life there are engagement parties, bridal showers, baby showers, others cheering her on in this new stage of life. But with this stage there is no party, no celebration, no one cheering her on. As I talked with other ladies and have felt it myself, it came to us as a grief.

I am so grateful to the Lord for bringing this book to my attention several years ago. It has truly been a gift from our Great God. I have shared this book with many ladies and they said that it has really helped them.

It is packed full of encouragement and inspiration, true stories and practical how-tos, but most importantly it points you to your relationship with Christ and how he can walk you through this new season with him.

It includes “Am I the only one who feels this way?, What do I do with my loneliness? What do I do with my disappointments?

There is also a great chapter on How to build Good relationships with your ‘New Son’ or ‘New Daughter’, Nurturing relationships with the families your kids have married into and an appendix on “A daily focus on the character of God.”

I highly recommend it!
