Gold for Thee

“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”   I Corinthians 3:12-13

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12

Help me build gold, Lord –
As I labor for thee;
For soon life will be o’er
And we’ll begin eternity.

May my works not be burned, Lord –
For it all will be tried
By fire – as it’s judged
– my face would I hide.

Let me cast all I do, Lord,
As a crown at your feet.
May I never take your praise
For earthly rewards are deceit.

Help me show you my love, Lord
My dedication, my trust
I want to give you my best.
Where nothing can corrupt it or rust.

I want to stand fast and true, Lord
Or help me know now
What to change in my ways
To make it count – show me how!

May it not be wood, hay, or stubble, Lord
Help me know this for sure.
Let me build on with gold
E’re I enter Heaven’s door.

How I want it to be gold, Lord
That I build not in vain.
Though I’m feeble and unworthy,
Help me serve in Thy name.
